Brittanica

I began exploring Brittanica Public Library Edition (BPLE) by searching for resources on the topic European Union economic crisis.  I found lots of articles on this topic but no video or images even though there were images in the articles.  There were many things I liked about my workspace; it was easy to create; I could organize resources by project.  I did not like that I had to resign in each time I saved something.
I translated an article into Swedish for my friend in Sweden.  That will work well for the foreign workers who come here during the summer.  Also I like that BPLE translates articles word by word for those people learning English as a second language.
On the homepage I checked out the different videos and images.  I love information on space.  Check out this image of Cassiopeia A.
Photograph:Cassiopeia A supernova remnant, in a false-colour composite image synthesized from observations gathered in different spectral regions by three space-based observatories. Red areas, representing infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope, highlight warm dust in the remnant's outer shell. Yellow areas, representing visible-light data collected by the Hubble Space Telescope, show delicate filamentary structures made of warmer gases. Green and blue areas are X-ray data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and reveal hot gas that was created when ejected material from the supernova collided at very high velocity with the surrounding gas and dust.

  • Look at this citation.  I created this in minutes using the cite media tab at the top of the page.  No more spending hours fretting over a bibliography!
Also totally unexpected for me was the box at the bottom of the page with links to breaking news.
I see this as a go to resource, a good starting place, for patrons who are looking for information, also a good homework tool for students and homeschoolers.

The adventure begins...

What a new adventure!  Not only will I learn about all the wonderful resources in Marvel but I also am learning how to set up a blog!
